The Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, founded in 1967 by its President H.H. the Aga Khan, is renowned for organizing international sailing regattas for superyachts, maxi yachts and one-design racing yachts.
In the continued pursuit of innovation and excellence, the YCCS inaugurated new winter base in Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands in 2012. The Club now runs regattas year-round on both sides of the Atlantic and offers members, guests and owners first-rate services at its two Clubhouses.
The Yacht Club Costa Smeralda has promoted international challenges such as Azzurra – the first Italian challenger for the America’s Cup in 1983 was relaunched in 2009 and currently participates, with considerable success, in the international TP52 circuit. The Club also participated in the Volvo Ocean Race, with a two boat campaign, and launched the motor yacht Destriero, which to this day holds the transatlantic crossing record set in 1992.
