You know all those great yacht photos you see? Ever wonder how they get them? This video shows you how a helicopter has to fly very close in order to get those great running shots.
I’ve done well over 100 yacht photoshoots in my lifetime. Most of them with Scott Pearson and many of them from a helicopter. We never crashed or hit a yacht but came extremely close once when doing the exact same maneuver that is in this video. Flying sideways in front of a Lazzara 106 off the beach of Nassau a gust of wind shot us towards the yacht, the helicopter rotor blades coming within feet of the flybridge hardtop. The captain, who was driving from the flybridge, quit that day. Said he would never do another photoshoot, period.
Anyways its cool to see how it’s done, enjoy the video.
