The Skywalk: kitesurfing at a height of 280ft powered by a sailboat!

The Skywalk was released today after days of wait! Alex Thomson, skipper of the HUGO BOSS Imoca 60, combined his two passion sailing and kitesurfing. After arriving in a Mercedes at one of the worlds top kite-surfing spot in Portugal, he sail offshore in pursuit of his Imoca 60. The crew throw him a 120m line, which he grab and attach to his kitesurfing harness. The sailboat then head upwind at a speed of 12 knots, and tighten the line to start the jump. The kitesurfer starts his ascension reaching up to 280′! When he reaches the maximum height he releases the line and start his descent to the water. The Skywalk took an end when Alex Thomson reaches the water and land successfully despite the turbulence of the boat and an helicopter! Over 35 person were involved in this crazy project that is the Skywalk! “The idea of combining two of my favorite sports and executing something which, to our knowledge, had never been done before was really exciting,” said Thomson.
