The captain of a 95-foot yacht was rescued by a US Coast Guard aircrew after he reportedly fell overboard from his vessel 10 miles north east of Nassau on Wednesday evening.

#The crew of a Detroit MH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter, on its return to Miami from a deployment in Great Inagua, picked up a mayday call from the Contessa.

#The aircrew relayed the information to the Coast Guard 7th District Command Centre in Miami, who contacted the Royal Bahamian Defence Force and launched a MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter based at the Atlantic Underwater Test and Evaluation Centre in the Bahamas.

#Piloted by Lt Cdr Samuel Babbitt, the Jayhawk crew from Air Station Clearwater, Florida, including Petty Officer Christopher Ensley, a rescue swimmer, located the captain, hoisted him to safety, treated him for minor injuries and flew him to Lynden Pindling International Airport.

#Several cruise ships, including Quantum of the Seas, Norwegian Gem and Norwegian Sky, along with several smaller vessels also took part in the search.
