An 18 years old crew dies aboard 55m Sailing Yacht Germania Nova

The 18 years old deckhand Briton Bethany Smith was cleaning the mast of the 55m schooner. While the yacht was moored in the port of Portland, Jamaica, she suddently fell on the deck of Germania Nova some 10m below. It was stated by Hill Robinson, the charter agent “The crewmember’s next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with the family, friends, and fellow crewmembers at this very difficult time. Hill Robinson and the owners are doing everything possible to support the family and friends and of course an immediate investigation is already underway. We request the courtesy of privacy for her family and all those affected. No further statements will be issued until the results of the investigation are known” It appears that the line holding her became undone. While this might be a mistake or an accident, an investigation is under way. Our thoughts go to the family in this difficult times. This reminds us that when at sea we are always at risk. Stay safe out there.
